Commissioning of New Ultra Sound Machine

In a vital stride toward boosting diagnostic services, the Simbu Provincial Health Authority (SiPHA) hosted a small yet significant commissioning ceremony for a newly acquired ultrasound machine at the Radiology Department. The event, held on Thursday 28/05/2025, marked a milestone in the department’s journey toward full diagnostic capability.

Dr. Evelyn Gima, Head of the Radiology Department, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the SiPHA management and board for their commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure. “Until today, our department was one modality short,” she noted. “Ultrasound is a vital diagnostic tool, and with its addition, we now offer a complete suite of imaging services. This is a transformative moment for both our staff and the patients we serve.”

The ceremony was officiated by Mrs. Maua, Chairperson of the Standards Committee, and board member, who had the honour of commissioning the machine. In her address before cutting the ribbon, Mrs. Maua emphasized the board’s unwavering dedication to improving patient care and staff welfare. “To meet the rising demand for specialist services and the growing burden of disease, we must expand and strengthen our diagnostic capabilities,” she said. “This machine is not just equipment it’s a promise of better service delivery in both public and curative health.”

The event drew attendance from key figures in SiPHA’s leadership, including CEO Dr. Kassi, Board Chairman Mr. Herman .D. Nime, Deputy Chairman Mr. Gore, and Dr. Nassar. The board and CEO took the opportunity to acknowledge the tireless efforts of the Radiology staff, including expatriate experts such as Biomedical Engineer Mr. Hussain Sied and Medical Physicist Dr. Kamal Eslam, whose technical expertise ensured the machine’s successful installation and their continuous support in the Radiology department.

Representing both the X-ray staff and patients, Mr. David Kerenga from the Radiology Department offered a heartfelt word of thanks. “This machine will serve the people of Simbu with precision and care. We are deeply grateful to the board and management for recognizing our needs and acting on them.”

With the ribbon officially cut and the machine commissioned, SiPHA’s Radiology Department now stands fully equipped to deliver comprehensive imaging services ushering in a new era of diagnostic excellence for the province.
