HSSDP Visits Gumine Health Centre

Government’s vision to increase accessibility of critical health services in the MTDP IV 2023-2027, PNGSDG 2030, NHP 2021-2030, and Vision 2050 is empowered and realised by strong collaborations with credible international partnerships as with Asian Development Bank (ADB) through Health Serives Sector Development Program (HSSDP).

In the consolidated efforts to improve ‘last mile’ challenges in the southern corridors of Simbu Province, HSSDP (which will soon be phased out into SHARE Project) is working closely with Simbu Provincial Health Authority (SiPHA) in assessing the Gumine Health Centre (Level 3) Clinical Service gaps, to carefully develop it into a climate resilient, upgraded and sustainable Gumine District Hospital (Level 4). This will provide specialised Curative and Primary Health services to both Gumine and Salt-Nomane-Karimui people in the near future.

HSSDP Consultant Mr Trevor Goulding was recieved in Hagen at 8am of Wednesday 6th May 2026 by SiPHA Supervisory Team led by Mr Mathew Kom, and taken down to SiPHA Headquarters in Kundiawa. After a brief welcome and meeting by SiPHA Board Chairman Mr David H Nime, Deputy Chairman Mr Ian Gore, and CEO Dr Ken Kassi, along with Trevor, the technical team and Gumine District Health Officer (DHO) Mr. David Moses, the team headed south. Surpassing a regular occurrence of landslide, Trevor and team reached Gumine Health Centre and completed the Clinical Service Gap Assessment with satisfactory participations from DHO Mr. Moses and his health staff and surrounding Mian people.

The SiPHA technical team safely escorted Trevor back to Hagen safe and sound. And SiPHA is fully committed to the progression of the development of Gumine District Hospital (L4), and welcome PNG Government-ADB’s initiative to also upgrade two (2) Level 3 Health Facilities in the challenging Salt-Nomane-Karimui Distirct.

SiPHA Board and Management express appreciation to HSSDP Project Manager Mr Rob Akers and Mr Trevor Goulding and team, the SiPHA Supervisory technical team, and DHO Gumine Mr. David Moses and his health staff, and Gumine people.

Special mention to DHO David Moses, the leadership in Gumine District Health Sevice is improving as denoted by integrated assessment from 75% in 2025 to 81% now in 2026. Keep up the good work.

Health Services is for our people and SiPHA stands to improve its services to give quality to all corridors of Simbu Province, ultimately, addressing the ‘last mile’.
